Solicitor Information

The Association would like to share the following information from the College Station Police Department:

We have received a few calls and messages regarding solicitors in the area and we want to remind our citizens to call CSPD if they feel threatened or if the solicitor has violated the following:

1. It is unlawful for a person 14 years of age or older to solicit an occupant of residential premises, unrequested

a) Without first registering and obtaining an identification badge issued by the City in accordance with this section;

b) Except between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and one half-hour (1/2) after sunset;

c)If the residence conspicuously displays at or near the primary residence, a readily legible sign, bearing any of the words: "No Trespassing"/"No Peddlers"/"No Advertising"/"No Solicitation"/"No handbills."

2. It is unlawful for the registrant to allow any other person to use or wear their own City-issued indentification badge.

3. It is unlawful for any registrant or registrant's agent to represent that City's issuance of a certificate of registration or indentification badge constitutes the City's endorsement or approval of the purposes of any particular solicitation.

The most important part is to call CSPD at 979-764-3600. We can't take enforcement action if we don't know about it! They are permitted to operate  within College Station because they have not violated City Ordinance as they have been issued valid permits (always ask to see a solicitor's City Permit!!). However, that is because we aren't being called or recieving complaints.

You will need to call CSPD and report the incident so that we can respond. If we can catch them in violation or document the violations, we will be able to move forward with suspension or revocation of their permits. I hope this clarifies any questions that y'all might have.

Safety for you and your family

• Always lock the windows and doors including dead bolts
• Put things in a place out of view
example: inside a closed, locked garage
• Thieves like the dark, have adequate exterior lighting, we recommend motion sensitive lighting as well
• Clear shrubbery from around windows and doors
• Install door viewer (peep hole) and use it
• Activate alarms (if applicable)
• Consider installing a motion sensor(s), with your alarm system, in case thieves attempt to break a window to enter your residence
• Always appear to be home
• Put lights on a timer
• Check the mail and pick up the newspaper regularly or have someone do it for you
• Keep your lawn mowed
• Use curtains or blinds on garage windows
• Never leave notes stating you are out
• List all your property, including serial numbers and their location or engrave your property with your driver’s license number – keep the list in more than one place
• Walk through and video tape your house, it’s easy to miss something you see everyday
• Contact the police for any suspicious vehicles or people when you see them (not the next day)
• Meet your neighbors and watch out for each other
• Remember the 3 L’s – Lights, Lock, and the Law
